European Bulletin of Himalayan Research

The European Bulletin of Himalayan Research (EBHR) was founded by the late Richard Burghart in 1991 and has appeared twice yearly ever since. It is edited on a rotating basis between France (CNRS), Germany (South Asia Institute) and the United Kingdom (School of Oriental and African Studies: SOAS). From 2010 to 2014, the Editorial Board comprises Michael Hutt (SOAS, Managing Editor), Ben Campbell (University of Durham), Ian Harper (University of Edinburgh), Sondra Hausner (University of Oxford), Sara Shneiderman (University of Cambridge) and Mark Turin (University of Cambridge, book reviews editor).

The EBHR’s contributing editors are Surya Subedi (University of Leeds), David Gellner (University of Oxford), Axel Michaels (South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg), Astrid Zotter (South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg), Martin Gaenszle (University of Vienna), Tone Bleie (University of Tromso), Matthew Nelson (SOAS, London), Fiona McDonnell (University of Newcastle), Ingemar Grandin (Linkoping University), Martin van Beek (University of Aarhus), Judith Pettigrew (University of Limerick), Mark Watson (Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh), Chiara Letizia (University of Milano-Bicocca), Philippe Ramirez (CNRS, Paris), Marie Lecomte-Tilouine (CNRS, Paris) and Pascale Dollfus (CNRS, Paris).

The Himalayas are taken to include the Karakorum, Hindukush, Ladakh, southern Tibet, Kashmir, north-west India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, and north-east India. The subjects covered by the journal range from geography and economics to anthropology, sociology, philology, history, art history, and history of religions. In addition to scholarly articles, EBHR publishes book reviews, reports on research projects, information on Himalayan archives, news of forthcoming conferences, and funding opportunities. Manuscripts submitted are subject to a process of strict peer-reviewing.
